About the artist

Laura Miner is an artist who likes to experiment in all media but works primarily in oils and plein air, drawing inspiration from the natural world. With a background in science and sustainability, her art is as much about connection to the environment as it is about creative expression. Plein air painting is where she finds her bliss!

Alongside her painting practice, Laura leads hands-on earth pigment making classes and workshops that welcome all skill levels. She developed the courses to combine art, science, history and nature.

One-Day Workshop: Earth Pigments

Hands-on one day workshop using forged and natural earth materials to make art pigments and paint. This workshop is great for all skill levels and will provide you with the techniques used to make the pigments and paints. Creating a painting from your newly made materials will add another dimension to your art.
Six-Week Series: Historic Painter's Palette

Hands-on class using forged and natural earth materials to develop a painters palette from a historic time period or an artist. This class will allow you to make from four to eight different pigments, depending on the palette. This class is open to all skill levels and provides you with the techniques from a variety of natural earth materials. You will create a painting from your natural earth palette.
Six-Week Series: Lake Pigments

Laking is a process that turns dyes into pigments. Natural earth materials used in laking include berries, flowers, food waste, barks and roots. This class includes several steps in the process of making the pigments; however, no prior experience is necessary. You will create a painting from your lake pigments palette.
